The moral and spiritual existence of man is what’s behind of Tolegen Kazhibayev’s works. His works are eternal casts of time of relationships and archetypes.
On December 12, 1942, in the village of Karagash in the Chkalovskiy district of the former Kokshetau region, the future poet Tolegen Kazhybay was born. Young Tolegen already knew his destiny is poetry. In the school, the future poet wrote his first poems. They began to be published on the wall newspaper in his native school and the press. After graduating from boarding school № 3 named after Malik Gabdullin. In the autumn of 1961 the young poet and writer enters the philological faculty of the Pedagogical Institute named after Abay in Alma-Ata.
The young man began his career in 1966 as a literary employee of the regional newspaper «Kokshetau pravdasy», where he became the editor-in-chief. Collection of poems «Doroga», «Imya Aynalayna» brought him to a future fame. In the 80s he published many collections of short stories and novels: «S imenem tvoim», «Gibel kulanov», «Lastochki Kokshetau », «Lepestki dushi moyey». Each work of the author is filled with its own life, they are diverse in their own way, filled with folk motifs. Turning to the past of his people, he talks about the «eternal» themes: love and hate, friendship and hostility, selflessness and cowardice, and these themes acquire a unique national color. The peak of his poetic creativity are poems: «Zhapek Batyr», «Bopaykhanym», «Karasay Dastan», «Akauyz attyn azhaly» and other works staged at the theater stages of Astana, Karaganda, Kokshetau, Petropavlovsk, where they were sold out. He is a proponent of experimentation in the field of art.
In 1999 Tolegen Syzdykovich was awarded the title of Honorary citizen of Kokshetau. He headed Akmola regional branch of the public organization «The Writers’ Union of Kazakhstan» for a long time. He is the author of more than 30 poetry collections and prose books.
He participated in the creation of an anthology of Estonian poetry, translated into Kazakh poems by poets of the Caucasus, Japanese writers – Ryūnosuke Akutagawa and Yukio Mishima.
Tolegen Syzdykovich continues to work as editor-in-chief of the independent newspaper «Bukpa» and literary and cultural magazine «Zher shoktygy».
Kazhibaev’s works have been translated into Russian, Ukrainian and Mongolian. Using his works we can learn ourselves and educate the younger generation.
